An off-grid solar system is a self-contained photovoltaic (PV) energy generation and storage system designed to operate independently of the centralized electrical grid. It typically consists of solar panels, charge controllers, batteries, and inverters, and may include backup generators. This system generates, stores, and delivers electricity locally, enabling autonomy from the grid.

An on-grid solar system, also known as a grid-tied solar system, is a photovoltaic (PV) power generation setup that connects directly to the utility grid. It efficiently converts sunlight into electricity through solar panels and synchronizes this energy with the grid, allowing seamless energy exchange and potential net metering, enhancing grid stability and reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

A hybrid solar system integrates photovoltaic (PV) solar panels with an energy storage system and a grid connection. This arrangement allows for the simultaneous generation of electricity from solar energy, storage of excess power, and the ability to draw from the grid when needed, optimizing energy production and consumption.

Types of Solar Mounting Structures

Choose the right mounting solution based on your roof type, available land, and usage needs. From RCC rooftops to carports, every structure is engineered for safety, performance, and aesthetics.

RCC Roof Mounts

Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) mounts are designed for standard concrete roofs. There are four primary variations based on roof type and usage requirements.

A. RCC Tiled Roof

Mechanism: Solar panels are mounted on rails attached to the roof's structure using specialized clamps.
Key Feature: Designed to navigate the uneven surface of tiled roofing without compromising structural integrity.

B. Flat Ballasted Type (Concrete Roof)

Mechanism: Panels are mounted on a ballasted system that uses heavy weights to hold them in place.
Key Feature: Non-penetrating design avoids drilling into the roof surface, preserving waterproofing.

C. Low RCC Roof

This is the most common installation type. The solar panels are mounted on short legs or concrete ballast blocks, keeping them close to the roof surface.
Design: The lowest point of the panel is typically 300mm to 500mm from the ground/roof.
Best For: Unused rooftops, sloping industrial sheds, and homeowners who do not use their terrace for recreation.

D. Elevated RCC Roof

This system raises the panels 6 to 9 feet from the roof, creating a roof-over-your-roof.
Design: The lowest point of the panel is typically 2 to 3 meters high. The structure uses heavy I-beams or square tubes (columns) to support the height.
Best For: Residential homes with small roofs, restaurants utilizing roof space, or buildings where the roof is used for utilities (water tanks, AC units).

Ground Mounts

Solar panels are installed directly on the ground rather than on a building, making them ideal when roof space is not suitable.

  • Description: Panels are mounted on structures anchored into the soil or on foundations.
  • Best For: Properties where the roof lacks sufficient space or is heavily shaded by trees, but where open land is available.

Sheet / Shed Roof Mounts

Ideal for metal sheds or sheet roofs, commonly seen in factories, warehouses, and some residential structures.

  • Description: Structures mounted on metal sheds or sheet roofing rather than concrete.
  • Mechanism: Panels are attached directly to the metal ribs of the roof using specialized clamps.
  • Usage: While used in residential sectors, these are most popular among commercial and industrial (C&I) consumers.

Solar Carports

Similar to ground mounts but elevated to allow vehicles to park beneath, turning parking areas into power-generating assets.

  • Description: Installed at a considerable height to cover parking bays while hosting solar panels on top.
  • Dual Utility: Converts underutilized parking real estate into clean energy-generating space.
  • EV Integration: Easily integrates with built-in Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations.
  • Aesthetics: Known for sleek looks and for enhancing the visual appeal of the property.
